Engineering Technical Manager

Role Summary

A new role within the company, the Engineering Technical Manager will lead the technical delivery of the Engineering research and design team, overseeing management of engineering projects and disciplines to deliver innovations and solutions.

Working as the engineering technical contact company-wide, you will act as design authority for the direction, review and approval of all engineering projects and technical deliverables as well as working cross-functionally using APQP and FMEA principles to influence the design of new products brought to manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a masters or honours degree in an electronics or engineering related discipline (or equivalent). You will have robust knowledge of modern analogue and digital electronic circuit design and solid experience of systems engineering in a sensor and/or instrumentation environment. A track record of leading, managing and delivery innovative technology projects is crucial and experience of industry standard PLM software, ideally Windchill, would be advantageous.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

Engineering Design Authority and Technical Management

  • Together with the Engineering Programme Manager, develop the technical and resourcing plans required for the Engineering research & design team to deliver the product development roadmap in order to meet corporate strategic objectives
  • Act as Design Authority for the direction, review and approval of all Engineering projects and technical deliverables

Embedded Software Engineer

Role Summary

Working alongside a team of electronic, mechanical, aerodynamics and automation engineers, you will be responsible for the software development lifecycle and quality of embedded software for a range of products and programmes for business systems. Mechanical Design Engineer (Climatic Wind Tunnel)

Acoustics Engineer

Role Summary

To conduct theoretical and experimental research on the fundamental acoustic behaviour and properties of the wind sensor products and their constituent parts. To develop computer and experimental models in order to better understand and enhance the operation of the wind sensor products and their constituent parts.

To assist in the design, building and commissioning of automated production / test machinery

Laboratories & Test Technician

Role Summary

FT Technologies is a successful high-tech, manufacturing business within the wind power industry. The company is now seeking an experienced technician to play an integral role within the Engineering team. You will work closely with the various engineers to support them in their research and development projects within the Engineering Test Lab.

It will be your responsibility to enable the laboratories to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. You will assist with co-ordination of Engineering tests, e.g. in lightning, environmental and reliability testing. You will also need to schedule maintenance work, which may be planned, preventative or as a consequence of an emergency breakdown.

  • Key contacts include the Engineering team, Facilities Manager and the Health & Safety Consultant
  • Located in Sunbury-on-Thames
  • 40 hours per week

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Set up and coordinate Engineering tests, including installing equipment, running tests and logging results, and enforce the correct and sage use of laboratory equipment.
  • Write and review Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments, and monitor compliance.
  • Write and keep up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures for the use of Laboratory equipment, and train engineers to follow SOPs and safety guidance.
  • Promote the adherence to 5S methodology in the Engineering laboratories and work place, and identify and implement continuous improvements for best practice.
  • Ensure that work areas and equipment are kept in a safe, tidy and ordered fashion.
  • Create an itinerary of equipment and their relevant service and calibration routines.
  • Schedule and organise routine maintenance procedures and repairs; maintain service and calibration schedules for all relevant test equipment.
  • Supervise and inspect work of contractors undertaking service and calibration of equipment.
  • Create and maintain battle plans for equipment and essential services failure.
  • Assist with machinery and equipment installations.
  • Ensure compliance with current health and safety and environmental legislation.
  • As appointed Radiation Protection Supervisor for ionising radiation equipment: supervise the operation and maintenance of ionising radiation equipment in accordance with the Local Rules, and monitor that staff observe the Local Rules for the safe use of ionising radiation equipment
  • Liaise with Health and Environment Policy Provider.

Person Specification

  • A levels or equivalent in science based subjects (preferably in maths/physics)
  • Further education at technical level (HND /BTEC)
  • Robust experience in a similar role in an electronics or engineering environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and circuit drawings
  • IT literacy skills in MS Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Experience in a test environment
  • Applied knowledge of 5S methodology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent influencing skills; knows when to be assertive
  • Demonstrated initiative; able to work without close supervision
  • Able to work in a methodical manner with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organised: ability to plan, prioritise and multitask when necessary
